Recessed Downlights

Recessed downlights create a sleek, unobtrusive ceiling line. With no visible fixture protruding below the ceiling plane, they're ideal for minimalist interiors, low ceilings, and spaces where you want the architecture, not the lighting, to be the focal point. They work equally well as general ambient lighting or as focused task lighting depending on the beam angle and placement.

Key considerations include cutout size (the hole diameter in your ceiling), beam angle (narrow spot for accent lighting, wide flood for general illumination), colour temperature (warm 3000K for living spaces, neutral 4000K for kitchens and offices), and IP rating if used in bathrooms or covered outdoor areas. Our range includes fixed and adjustable options, with wattages from 5W to 18W.

Recessed downlights require a false ceiling with adequate depth, typically 70mm to 120mm depending on the fixture. For concrete ceilings without a false ceiling, consider our surface-mounted alternatives. We recommend planning downlight positions during the renovation stage to coordinate with your contractor and electrician.

Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, corridors, bathrooms (with appropriate IP rating), offices, retail spaces, restaurants, and hotel lobbies. Recessed downlights are the most versatile fixture type in any lighting plan.

Our recessed range starts at $15 for a classic GU10 housing (Gema, Solenne and Mirel) and runs to $129 for designer fittings such as the Contour Double and Contour Telescopic. Anti-glare housings, which set the bulb deeper so it stays out of your eyeline, cost $20 to $30. If you prefer a complete fitting with the LED built in, the LINIQ easy-release and low-profile downlights cost $19 to $45 depending on size and wattage.

GU10 housings are sold without a bulb. Budget $6.90 for a Philips Essential Spot, $9.90 for a dimmable LINIQ GU10, or about $50 for an Aqara T2 smart bulb that tunes from warm to cool white. Eight classic housings with Philips bulbs come to about $175 in parts.

A GU10 housing is a fitting with a standard bulb socket. When a bulb fails you twist it out and fit a new one, and you can switch to a smart bulb later without touching the ceiling. Integrated downlights, like our LINIQ range, have the LED built in. They are slimmer and give a very even light (the 12W LINIQ LQ-8801 puts out 1,080 lumens), but the whole unit is replaced at end of life. The LINIQ easy-release design keeps that job quick.

Choose GU10 if you want smart control, a specific beam angle or easy bulb swaps. Choose integrated for general lighting over larger areas such as kitchens, corridors and offices.

Recessed downlights need a false ceiling with space behind it, usually 70 to 120mm. If your ceiling void is shallow, the Solenne is only 23mm deep, and the Isola is just 74mm across for tight layouts. Anti-glare models such as the Velin set the bulb 50mm up, so they need a little more room.

Replacing existing downlights? Measure the hole in the ceiling first. Most Singapore homes use 75mm or 100mm cut-outs, and matching the existing size saves patching and repainting. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the fitting and the cut-out on WhatsApp and we will tell you what fits.

Recessed fittings cannot go into bare concrete. For a concrete ceiling, use surface-mounted downlights, which sit on the ceiling and need no cut-out, or track lights, which run several spots from a single power point.
