Track Lights
Track lighting systems for Singapore homes — standard, magnetic, and smart variants with flexible head configurations.

Track lights are the go-to ceiling fixture for Singapore homeowners who want flexibility without committing to a fixed grid of downlights. A single track rail mounts to the ceiling and accepts multiple adjustable heads that you can aim, reposition, or swap without rewiring. They work with or without a false ceiling, which makes them practical for both new BTO flats with bare concrete ceilings and renovated condos. At Sonnelight, we carry three track light systems — standard rail-based track, magnetic track, and smart track with app control and tunable lighting — covering every budget and design preference for Singapore HDB and condo homes.
Types of track lights we carry
Standard track lights use a fixed rail (typically 1m or 1.5m lengths) with screw-mount heads that lock into the rail at any position. Most standard track heads use GU10 sockets, which means you can easily swap bulbs — changing colour temperature, wattage, or even upgrading to a smart GU10 bulb without replacing the fixture. Standard track is the most affordable system and available in white, black, and metallic rail finishes. It suits living rooms, kitchens, corridors, and retail spaces in Singapore. Magnetic track lights are the premium tier. A low-profile rail (usually recessed or surface-mounted) accepts modules that snap on and off magnetically — spots, floods, pendants, and linear bar modules. No tools, no clips. Magnetic track typically runs on 48V DC, which means thinner wiring and safe-to-touch rails. The aesthetic is noticeably sleeker than standard track, which is why it has become the default choice in high-end HDB and condo renovations. Modules are integrated LED (no replaceable bulb), so choose carefully on colour temperature and wattage at purchase. Smart track lights add app and voice control to either standard or magnetic systems. In standard track, this usually means fitting smart GU10 bulbs into existing heads. In magnetic systems, some manufacturers offer modules with built-in WiFi or Zigbee connectivity. Smart track gives you tunable white (shift between warm and cool), dimming, scheduling, and scene control — practical for living rooms and dining areas where lighting needs change between day and evening. Smart variants are a core part of any full-range lighting shop.
How to choose
Installation type comes first. Surface-mounted track attaches directly to the ceiling — no false ceiling needed. Recessed track sits flush inside a channel cut into a false ceiling for a cleaner look. Suspended track hangs on cables or rods for high-ceiling spaces. Track length and head count depend on room size. A 4-room HDB living room typically uses one 1.5m track with 3–4 heads, or two 1m tracks in parallel. As a rough guide, plan one head per 2–3 square metres for general lighting. Wattage and beam angle per head determine brightness and spread. Narrow beams (15–24 degrees) create focused accent pools — ideal for artwork and feature walls. Wide beams (36–60 degrees) provide broader wash for general ambient lighting. Most Singapore homes use a mix of both on a single track. Colour temperature: 3000K for living and bedroom, 4000K for kitchen and workspaces. Magnetic track modules are fixed at purchase; standard GU10 track lets you change later by swapping bulbs. For the smart-curious: consider whether scheduling (automatic dimming at night) or tunable white (warm for dinner, neutral for cooking) would earn its keep in that room. If the answer is yes, the price premium on a smart system is worthwhile.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a false ceiling for track lights? No. Surface-mounted track bolts directly to a concrete or plaster ceiling, which is why track lights are popular in HDB BTO flats before any renovation. Recessed track does require a false ceiling channel. Magnetic vs standard track — which for HDB? Standard track is more affordable and uses replaceable GU10 bulbs — practical if budget is the priority. Magnetic track looks more premium, offers tool-free module swapping, and runs on safe 48V DC. For most HDB renovations in Singapore, magnetic track is the more popular choice in 2026. How many heads can I fit on one track? It depends on track length and total wattage. A 1.5m track comfortably fits 4–5 heads at 7W each (35W total). Stay within the track system's rated maximum wattage, printed on the transformer or rail specification. Are smart track lights worth the premium? In living and dining areas where you shift between activities — cooking, eating, entertaining — smart tunable track lights make a real difference. In corridors and utility rooms, standard track is more than adequate.
