They deliver the same concentrated, downward illumination as recessed models but sit on the ceiling surface in a compact housing. Why choose surface mounted
The main reason is straightforward: no false ceiling needed. Recessed downlights require a cavity above them (70–120mm), which means a false ceiling must exist or be built. Surface mounted downlights bolt directly to concrete, plaster, or timber ceilings. Total installed depth is typically 50–80mm, protruding from the ceiling surface but far less invasive than building a full false ceiling. They are also the right choice for retrofit projects.
